BOROUGH COUNCIL. 1 (From our Own Correspondent). ' The usual monthly meeting of the ] Council was held on Wednesday evening. , there being present—His Worship the Mayor, Crs. Black, Brabant, Birdling, Kienner, Spurdlo and Rattenbury. CORRESPONDENCE. From C. Gastaud, asking for particulars in reference to the Council's requirements in the event of his cutting up and roading a portion of the property owned by him. From Waitara Harbor Board, forward- ' ing list of lessees of bridge and harbor endowment reserves. From tltc secretary of the Waitara Municipal Fire Brigade asking that a culvert be placed over channel opposite the now station.—Granted. From the District Engineer, that the matter of a crossing over Nelson street was being considered. From tiie Under-Secretary of the Public Works Department in reference to the bridge subsidy. From Messrs Tlios. Borthwiek and Sons, regretting that any nuisance was caused by the cartage of' offal, and statiirg that the matter would be dealt with. From Roy and Nicholson, re appointment by the Spiral Steel Pipe Co. of Mr. G. Fitzgerald, of Wellington, as arbitrator in the dispute of accounts, also that the loan papers had been legallv passed and would be submitted to the Board at its first meeting. From the Department of Agriculture, re amendments to Noxious Weeds Act. Mr. C. Gaustaud waited on the Council re his petition of sub-division. It was resolved to accept control of the road conditionally on its being formed and metalled 12ft wide, footpaths, watertables and culverts to be done to the satisfaction of the borough foreman. • Mr. \V. T. doll personally applied on his own and his brother's 'behalf for a two-chain extension of water pipes to each property.—Granted. Messrs Harrison and Passau, representing the Tennis Club again applied for the water to be taken to the courts.—Decided to extend four chains, provided the club do the balance of o'/j chains. Mr. C. F. Dowsett, C.E." submitted several bridge plans, but it was resolved to consider the matter later at a special meeting. Several leases falling in at the end of
the month are to be put up to auction on a ten years' lease. The Works Committee were authorised to have some repairs made to the pound fence and obtain a new knife for the grader. His Worship gave notice to move at next meeting by-laws in connection with bridge traffic.
The action of the Mayor in agreeing with the Harbor Board for repairs to the bridge was approved.
It was resolved to ask the Harbor Board to put up on a longer tenancy sections 3 to 11, block 45 Kast. His Worship the Mayor, with Cr. liattenbury, was authorised to sign conveyance of road to Mcs-rs Borthwiek and Sons.
Mr. Palmer, 0.1*).. Xew Plymouth, was appointed the Council's arbitrator in the dispute with the Spiral Steel Pipe Co. The Mayor and Cr. Rattenbury will sign the deed of submission on behalf of the Council.
The foreman's and overseer's reports Were read and adopted. The waterworks overseer reported on visiting lieadworks. He found the river very low, but the tank was up to its normal level, and that the river would need to be practically dry )•■ fore there would be any necessity for users to be economical.
