THE HOCKEY CLUB. I From Our Own Correspondent.) The annual general meeting of the | Inglewood Hockey Club was held on Tuesday evening. About 20 members ' were present, Mr. James, the president, occupying the chair. The balance-sheet showed a most satisfactory state of affairs, the cash balance in hand being £4 15s lid, while the club had purchased a concrete roller during the past season at a cost of £B. The report showed that the A team had been ruuners-up in the shield competition last year. New members were enrolled as follows:—Messrs. Curd, Quickfall, Hogg,; Hart, R. E. Taylor, and DnfTill. Officers were elected as follows: Patron, Mr. W. E. Percival, re-elected; president, Mr. H. W. James, re-elected; vice-presidents, Dr. Hislop, Messrs. Carrington and last year's vice-presidents, with the exception of Mr. T. Phillips, who has left the district; secretary and treasurer, Mr. M. W, Priest, delegate to association, Mr. M. W. Priest; auditor, C. B .Martin (all re-elected); manage- j ment committee, Messrs. Ward, Reed,' Hopson, Sutherland, Stevens and secre-1 tary; selection committee, Messrs. Stevens, Hopson and Harris; practice > captain, Mr. J. Harris. The ground committee will be Messrs. J. Harris, R. Ronajdson, J. Allen, V. Nicholls, W. Stevens, G. Duffill, and W. H. Quickfall. Referees, Messrs. Rolston and Patterson. Opening day was fixed for April 6th. It was explained that Mr. G. Gudgeon had kindly presented a stick for the most improved player last season, and that the lucky member would have to be decided on at the meeting. On the first ballot, Messrs Priest and R. Spurdle tied with three each, but on a final ballot Priest was declared the winner.
Mr. Ward then made a few laudatory remarks on the work done for the club by Mr. T. Phillips, who had now left the district, and who had "been a member of the club for six or seven years, and had played for the club when they won the championship. He was now unfortunately, through an accident to his shoulder, incapacitated. Some discussion took place as to the advisability of running two approximately equal teams in Inglewood, instead of a first and second team, but the matter was left in abeyance.
