PATEA DISPUTE ENDED

THE ARBITRATOR'S AWARD. By Telegraph.—Pre* Association. Wellington, Yesterday. Mr. J, W. Poynton, who was appointed umpire in the Patea wharf workers' dispute, to-day gave his decision on the only point on which the arbitrators had failed to agree. That was the question of payment for overtime. The men claimed an increase from 2s to 2s 6d an hour. Mr. Poynton said that the total amount involved in the claim was not great, and if it were possible to pass it on to the consumers it would be hardly felt. This, however, could not bo done, and his decision was therefore against the claim for an increase. Both parties had previously agreed to abide by this decision, and the dispute is now ended.
