WANGAMJI NOTES. (By "Moturoa.") Every train brings its load of sportsmen, horses .and horsemen into Webbtown these days. The weather is beautifully fine, the tracks green and "springy" after the welcome rains, and the talk of the town is of "good things." Everything points to a good meeting. Training operations entice . a goodly number from their beds these early mornings, but up to the present no watch-breaking performances have been noted.

On Monday morning Ottr.s and Prosser were early astir, and then' were not many present when Lady Medallist and Madam Madcap stepped out for a sixfurlong spin. The Canterbury filly appeared to b<! very well, and was in front for a couple of furlongs. Then Lady Medallist drew level, and they came into the straight abreast. In the run home Pressor's mare appeared to hold her rival comfortably, but it was a smart gallop, and showed both to be very fit. Pierene rattled over five furlongs in 1.5, going nicely. Vice-Admiral covered a mile in 1.46, and finished up strongly. North* East and St. Bill, singly, put in solid mile gallops. Both Hall's charges lookwell. North-East was supposed to thrive on easy work, but he has had plenty of strong galloping of late. Dearest gained many friends by a smartly run seven furlongs, but St. Felix is apparently a poor track horse. Ngakau paced the Cup candidate, Kopu, for four furlongs, and then dropped out. Kopu went on for another round, and finished up fairly well. Miss Mischief did two rounds slowly, and was anxious to improve the pace. Grandee, Taft and several others also worked.

Final payments for the Cup on Monday night saw Birkdale drop out. His defection cume as a surprise, as it was published that Billy Price was to ride the Hawke's Bay horse, and he was frequently called for in "doubles." H. Gray will ride Miss Mischief, and A. Olliver will have the mount on Merrivonia. There is some talk of securing the services of C. Jenkins for Mendip. Trainer George Price arrived on Monday night with Boanerges, Bronze and Kilosteri. The llighden horses were out o» Tuesday morning, and did easy work. Boanerges looks particularly well trained. Yesterday morning Miss' Mischief covered a round at three-quarter pace. Kopu beat Shining Star over a mile and a half in 2.43, Kilosteri bringing the pair home over the last seven furlongs. Merrivonia did two rounds at a fair pace.

Bronze dashed oft" four furlongs in 51 sec.

St. Felix led Laius at the end of mile in 1.-17.

Boanerges ran six furlongs easily. Torbclle, Playmate, and Xavier were schooled, but jumped poorly. Roosevelt beat Taft over four furlongs in 55soc.

Esnich and Montiform pleased the most of Watts' horses.

Bottle and Humming Bird were given easy tasks.

Waitapu arrived at Wanganui on Tuesday from New Plymouth, in charge of B. O'Driscoll. *
