THE LEIDERTAFEL
ANNUAL MEETING. At the annual general meeting of the New Plymouth Liedertat'el in the Town Hall on Monday evening there was an attendance of only about a dozen members. Mr. T. Woodard, chairman of committee, presided. The balance-sheet showed a balance to credit of £3 19s sd. The report stated that since the present committee took office in July last the society had had a very varied experience. It was decided to amalgamate with the New Plymouth Liederkranz for the production of an oratorio. The "Elijah" was the selected work, and at the conchisjon of the first practice the conductor'(Mr. C. H." Anderson) 'sent iii l his resignation, having decided to reside in Auckland. Mr. G. Herbert White was appointed to the position, and he carried out his duties to the entire satisfaction of the committee, the members, and those of the general public who attended the performance, which, however, resulted in a loss of £23 odd, owing to lack of support on the part of the general public. The was retrieved at the visit of His Excellency the Governor, Lord Islington. The principal and vital business of the meeting was to determine its operations for the year. In concluding the report the chairman thanked the committee for their very loyal support, and in mentioning the lion, secretary, Mr. J. Mitchell, who had done capital service, he said be was in no way underrating what the rest had done. The lion, treasurer, Mr. S. L. Mark, was leaving New Plymouth. Discussion followed as to the future activities of the society, those present supporting the chairman's deprecation of the apparent apathy and indifference of those nominally active members of the society. Mr. S. L. Mark was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his services as treasurer to the society. The election of officers was deferred. It was resolved, on the motion of Messrs. Rudd and Bary, that those present form themselves into a committee to confer with the committee of the Liederkranz with a view to holding a combined social-business evening on Tuesday, March 14, in St. Mary's Hall.
