«» BANK OF ENGLAND RETURN. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, February 24. The Bank of England return for the week ended Wednesday, February 22, is as under:Note issue, £55,540,000; Government debentures, £11,015,000; other securities, £7,434,000; gold, £37,091,000. ' Bullion, £37,091,000; reserve, £29,637,000; note circulation, £27,110,000; deposits, £56,925,000; proportion of reserve to liabilities, 51.80. There was very little change in consols or colonial stocks during the week. THE MONEY MARKET. The Bank of England rate of discount remains at V-/» per cent., to which it was reduced on February 10. A year ago it was 3 per cent. Due open market rate for best three months bills is 3s 9d higher on the week at 3% per cent.; a year ago it was 2%. Short loans are 12a Cd higher at 3%d per cent.; a year ago the quotation was iy 2 . In Paris the open market discount Tate is unchanged on the week at 2% per cent. (2% a year ago); while in Berlin it is 2s fld higher at 3 per cent, (the same a year ago).

A cargo of Australian 3 sold at 35s 7d. Holders are asking 34s 3d for South Australian steamer Janu--1 ary shipment, 34s 3'/.d for sailer January shipment, 34s for January-February s shipment, and 34s 3d for parcels afloat, t There is but quiet, trade iii Australians ! on the spot, at 37s 3d to 37s Od. WHEAT AND PRODUCE. Received 20, 5.5 p.m. London, February 25. Wheat.—A cargo of Australian old brought 33s Cd ; and 5500 tons of South Australian February shipment brought 33s 9d.
