CORRESPONDENCE
PIGS. To the Editor. Sir, —How much hinder are the farmers of this district going to put up with the present unsatisfactory suite? At present the good farmer who breeds good pigs, well topped off, has to take less money than the wide-awake farmer in the Manawatu gets for his. He obtaias 3%d, while we get 3</ 4 d, ami, in addition, he gets the actual dead-weight, while \v<» are penalised with a heavy tare of 3S'/o per cent, live-weight. Vl)y cannot pigs be graded'/ Only this week I saw some splendid pigs, well topped off on corn, and some others, regular mongrels, filled up with whey, that had never seen corn; yet the owner gets oil with the same tare and the same price, is this just? Why, even the despised Chinese has more "go" than we farmers. He ships his best to London and gets (i'/od. Manawatu funnel's have three years' guarantee at 4'/ 2 d. Why cannot we do likewise? Let us have them graded. The filthy farmer you mentioned in a recent issue of your paper would thus be weeded out. Our health inspectors will never do it, I am afraid.-! am, etc., SUFFERER.
