AMUSEMENTS

BIOGRAPH PICTURES. TO-NIGHT. Despite the opposition of the elements and the counter attraction of Wirth's Circus, the Theatre Royal was well filled on Saturday night, the usual change-of-programme patrons being well represented. The new series includes a number of fine scenic views, an especially fine picture being "Philoe, the City of the Dead," showing the city now partly submerged by the waters of the Nile. * The picture takes the form of a boat trip in and about the ancient Egyptian temples, the fine architecture of the country making a capital subject for kinema/tography. Another interesting colored picture is "Subiaca and the Benedictine Monasteries." The American Biograph Company has excelled in "That Chink of Golden Gulch." The romance is an entirely original effort. The hero of the piece is a son of the Celestial land, and suffers the usual torments of a crowd of miners and cowboys, from whom he is rescued by a young cowboy. The Chink is instrumental in the capture of a mail robber, and shows his gratitude to his friend by presenting him with the 5000 dodars reward, thereby enabling him to marry the girl he loves. "Flower of the Ranch" is an exciting cowboy story, in which the villain receives justice according to the boys. "The District Attorney" and "The Acrobat's Son" are star dramas above the ordinary type. "The Pathe Gazette," as usual contains the latest interesting events. "Italian Naval Manoeuvres" is an interesting reproduction of up-to-date battleships manoeuvring, often at full speed ahead. Other pictures are "Baleric Isles," "Tweedledum's First Bicycle," "Foolshaad, Footballer, and a screamn'g comedy, "Up-to-date Servants.' The programme will be repeated to-night and Wednesday
