A CLERGYMAN'S LAPSE
GUILTY OF MISCONDUCT. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright London, February 24. The Consistory Court found the Rev. John Lax, vicar of Stanmore, Westmoreland, guilty of misconduct. A cablegram of September 29, 1909, reported that a body of masked men waylaid Mr. Lax and his school mistress. The men bound, gagged and tarred him, and read a mock service over him. Subsequently five young parishioners were fined £5 each for assault. Cross-exami-nation of the vicar, who was a married man, suggested certain relations with the school mistress.
