PERSONAL.
Hon. W. C. F. Carncross, M.L.C., of FJtham, was in New Plymouth last evening. Ministers will reassemble in Welling' ton early next week for a series of Cabinet meetings. In consequence of injuries received in a coach accident some weeks ago, Mr.. 6. P. Donnelly has been recommended by his doctor to take complete rest. He has therefore found it necessary toresign his position on the racing committee set up under the Act of last session.—Napier telegram.
News has been received of the death of Mr. Alex. Gunion, formerly of Alexandra, who was killed by natives on the Gold Coast, West Africa. Deceased, who was engaged by the Offin River Gold Estates Co., left Alexandra about three years ago, and filled the position of manager of one of the company's dredges. Deceased, who was 30 years of age, leaves a widow.
According to a Timnru telegram Sir Joseph and Lady Ward left the express train at Timaru last evening, and were entertained by the Mayor and councillors at a dinner. They afterwards met a big public gathering at the Olympia Hall, and were presented with an address of welcome, farewell, and bon voyage. Sir Joseph Ward gave an address on the same lines as at Dunedin. This was his first address at Timaru. At the close of the meeting he was heartily cheered. Sir Joseph and Lady Ward then left by train for Christchurch.
