CANADA'S LOYALTY TO THE EMPIRE. EXPRESSED BY PARLIAMENT. Received 24, 12.35 a.m. I Ottawa, February 23. I The Manitoba and Ontario boards of trade oppose reciprocity with the United States. The Canadian Parliament has formally declared its loyalty to Britain. The French-Canadian. group moved that the House wishes to dispel the unrest caused by the annexation talk following upon the reciprocity agreement, and emphatically assert its determination to preserve intact the bonds uniting Canada with the Empire. Sir Wilfrid Laurier was surprised, but accepted the amendment, which was adopted unanimously. Sir F. W. Borden, Opposition Leader, expressed his belief that the American Congress would not accept the reciprocity proposal on economic grounds, but on political. Mr. Monk, leader of the Nationalists, charged Messrs. Lemieux and Brodeur with disloyalty to the King. Sir F. W. Borden, on behalf, of ,both of these Ministers, warmly denied the accusation.
