THE DRINK BILL
A BIG INCREASE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. C'hristchurch, Wednesday. The Rev. Mr. Walker estimates that the drink bill for the Dominion for 1910 is £3,803,438, or £3 13s l'/ 4 d per head, being an increase of £175,303 in the aggregate, or 2s o%d per head. The calculations (ire 'based on the quantity passed through the Customs, and Mr. Walker says the retail rates bring the total up to fully £5,000,000. The bill per head dropped from £3 Kis in 1885 to £2 19s B%d in 189(5. and rose to £3 15s lOd in 1907, but dropped to £3 lis in 1909.
