Giving evidence before the University Commission, the president of the Teachers' Union said that there were between eight and ten thousand fewer. scholars in the public schools of the State than there were ten years ago, due to the fact that fewer remained after twelve years of age, they being wanted to earn money to assist in keeping the folks a*t home.'
