TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.") Dunedin and Woodville Cups will be run to-day. Vi has been scratched for all engagements at the Woodville meeting. R. Hatch will have the mount on Los Angelos in the Dunedin Cup. C. Jenkins will ride Mr. E. J. Watt's horses at Woodville, there being no Porlrua ones engaged. Wanganui seratchings: Goldfinder and Dazzling, for all engagements. Makara, who shaped well at the Taranaki meeting, is engaged in the Maiden and Scurry at Woodville. J. Lowe's pair, Iranui and Effort, have been doing good work since going south, and the touts at Wingatui report that the Wellingtonians are in capital nick. Jolly Maiden, Ladis and Kohupatiki have* been scratched for the Maiden at Woodville. Allurement is considered a likely starter in this event, and perhaps a change of ownership may bring a change of luck.
Trainer S. Brereton has Ohine and Draft engaged at Woodville, but recent running does not encourage one to "get rash" about their chances. If Cheddar and Floater both start in the Wharito Hack they will be bracketed on the machine. Cheddar is owned by Mr. E. J. Watt, and Floater is leased by Alf. Shearsby from Mr. Watt. A Poneke scribe states that Kauroa, who showed promising form recently, will be ridden by the Wcstralian horseman, Percy Moore, in his Woodville engagements. The Ashhurst trainer, J. Sullivan, has Contour and Waipuni going well, and the pair should run well at Woodville. The Dunedin Cup promises to provide an interesting race. Apart from Los Angelas and the favorites, the Canterbury horse, Prim, who won the Metropolitan Handicap with 7.11 in the smart time of 2.34 3-5, is engaged with Bst 101b, and also Martine, winner of the C.J.C. Oakes. The daughter of Martian carried her Bst 101b to the end of a mile and a half in 2min 30 4-sscc, and looks niccely treated in to-day's race with Bst 41b. Both these horses are sheltered by Trainer G. Mur-ray-Aynslcy's establishment at Riccarton—so he appears to hold a good hand. A wedding took place at Newmarket, England, last month, which caused a lot of interest among the sporting fraternity. Kempton Cannon, the jockey, and son of the famous Tom Cannon, a shining light of the Archer-Asborne-Fordham period, was married to Mrs. Watts, the widow of that great artist in the pigskin, E. Watts. j
