OUR ESTIMATED POPULATION. The estimated population of New Zealand on December 31, 1910, is given in the Gazette as 1,062,792, inclusive of Maoris, and the inhabitants of the Cook and other annexed islands. Excluding Maoris and outlying islands, the number is 1,002,721. The total increase during 1910 was 19,795. J "ss of arrivals over departures di. car was 3408, and the exces? . is over deaths 10,387. , The population of the Cook and other islands is 12,340. The number of Chinese in New- Zealand on December 31, 1910, was estimated to be 2715, of whom 78 were females. The birth-rate for the Dominion in 1910 was 20.21 per 1000 of mean population, and the death-rate 9.71. as against 27.29 and 9.22 respectively in 1909. The deaths in 1910 (9639) were more than the number registered in 1909 (8959) by 080, and the rate per 1000 rose from 9.22 to 9.71. The number of marriages (excluding those contracted between Maoris) solemnised in 1910 is estimated at 8200, giving a rate of 8.20 per 1000 of the mean population, against 8094 and 8.33, the actual number and rate in 1909.
