THE JUDGE'S EXPLANATION. WANGANUI PROBABLY LOST THEIR HEADS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. Mr. Short, the judge in the band contest, speaking at,.a, perfomaaee of his "L'Africanus" given" by - the Wellington Garrison Band for him yesterday, said the Wellington Garrison could go to Bal. larat and sweep all before them. They had combination, tone, intonation, and grand tune, due, no doubt, to the conductor. He would be able to assure bands at Home that they were not the only ones—that he knew one in New Zealand. There had been another, but it was probable they had lost -their heads. What they had done didn't please him. He advised the Wellington_ Band to keep their heads.
