PERSONAL.

The resignation of the Rev. S. S. Osborne has been accepted by the Presbytery of Taranaki, to take effect on May 31st next. Mr. \V. M. Perry, who is leaving shortly on a trip to England, is to be tendered a Masonic farewell to-morrow evening. A cable from London advises that Mr. D. N. MacDiarmid has, among others, passed the first section of the B.A. degree in four subjects. Ex-Constable Roche, who was stationed at New Plymouth for over twenty years, is re-visiting these parts after an absence of eleven years. Mr. Roche is now living at Hawera. The presentation of the Bayly Memorial scholarship medal to the winner, Master Alexander Bacon, .will. take place at the High School to-morrow afternoon at 4.30 o'clock. The presentation will bemade by members of the Rugby Union. There died at Oreymouth recently one of the very early pioneers of the West Coast, Mr."William Rac, in his 78th year. He was a native of Scotland, and landed in Melbourne in 1852. In 1873, Mr. Rae established the Despatch Foundry Company, (ireymouth, which developed into one of the most flourishing institutions of its kind in the Dominion. In 1905, owing to the infirmities of old age, Mr. Rae withdrew from active connection with the foundry, and lived in retirement until his death.
