When staining floors or stairs, first brush tlio Darts to bo stained with a coat of liquid glue. Allow .it to dry, and t'hen apply the varnish stain. Tt will then bi> found that the floor is beautifully smooth for varnishing, and also that the varnish goes a, good deal further than when applied to tho plain hoards. Don't dry a wet shoe until you have rubbed it well with a flannel eloth and then with vaseline.
