Rabbit exporters strongly deny the existence of a combine to restrict trade, and state that they are merely associated for mutual protection. The position was, they say, brought about through over-production and reckless packing, which had placed a lot of rubbish on the market and thereby given Australian rabbits a bad name. The trade was in such a precarious state that unless there was a radical change in methods of handling it was going to have a serious set-back.
