FITZROY TOWN BOARD

WIN FOR THE "PROGRESSIVES." Great interest was taken in the Fit*roy election yesterday, despite the disturbing factor of it being race day. Both parties worked hard, and 208 clwtors registered their votes. The nominal roll number is 490, but of these a considerable number, approximately 50, had been struck off.for various reasons, besides which there is a percentage of absentees. The result may be considered as a decisive victory for the progressive party, who got in their three candidates by an overwhelming majority. The result was announced an hour after the closing of the poll. Mr. C. F. Foote was returning officer, and Mr. C. Armitage scrutineer for the "progressives," the Greater New Plymouth party. The following is the result of the voting: Jas. Kibby 185, E. Griffiths 181, F. J. Jackson 181, W. Outfield 128, W. H. Griffiths 121, John Searle 111, 0. Oxenham 105; informal 2. The first five were elected. The result should expedite the consummation of the Greater New Plymouth scheme, and serve as a direction to the Government to grant the wishes of the majority of ratepayers that have petitioned for amalgamation.
