FESTIVAL OF EMPIRE
AUSTRALIAN CO-OPERATION. By Cable—Press Association—Copyrignt. Received 16, 1 a.m. Sydney, February 10. A public meeting decided to co-operate with Victoria and New Zealand in arranging for an Australasian sports team for the Festival of Empire. A subscription was opened, and it is hoped to obtain Government assistance. GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY FOR Ol'R ATHLETES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Thursday. The Prime Minister states that Goverment has decided to give a subsidy of £ for £ up to £SOO for New Zealand athletes to compete in the Festival ot Empire sports. A TEAM OF FOUR PROBABLE. Christchurch, Last Night. Mr. Walter Johnston, secretary of the New Zealand Swimming Association, one of the bodies interested, when informed of the Government's decision, said he felt that the offer was a very liberal one, and was completely satisfactory. It was hoped that the sum of £250 would be raised privately, and that the Government subsidy of the same sum would enable four representatives, three athletes and one swimmer, to be sent from New Zealand.
