BIBLE SOCIETY

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Taranaki auxiliary of the British and Foreign Bible Society was held in St. Mary's Hall on Tuesday evening, when the Rev. John Wilkinson'presided. ANNUAL REPORT. In the annual report the committee reported that tiic routine work l;ad been carried on on the same lines as before, and with the same result, though not with as much success as in the previous year. While in most cases the contributing churches had increased their donations, the total amount raised in New Plymouth was less than that of the previous year. The outside districts of 11aweva, Eltham and Patea reported an increase of at least £3, but, unfortunately, the contributions other than through the churches and the depot sales had not reached the previous year's record. Nevertheless, the committee had remitted a draft of £7O to the Society in London, and had expended a small sum in purchasing Bibles, etc., for the New Plymouth depot. The balance-sheet showed receipts to be £BO (is 4d, made up as follows: Bibles sold, £lO 17s; collections through cliHiches in New Plymouth; £23 10s; Eltham, £4 ss; Hawera, £l2; Patea, £ls; donation J. MacAulay, £1; B. Enroth £1 Is, Arthur Clark £5. Expenditure was £!) as (Id, and there was a balance, after remitting £7O to London of £1 0s 7d. OFFICER BEARERS. Officers for the incoming Tear wore elected as follow:—President, Rev. V. G. Evans; secretary, Mr. E. Bishop; treasurer. Mr. N. K. MacDiarmid: auditor Mr. .1. S, McKellar. GENERAL. Votes of thanks were passed to the Rev. S. :S. Osborne (who had resigned I lie presidency) and Miss Drew (retiring secretary).
