THE TERRITORIALS

According to Hie new .Defence Act, registration is to be completed by .June 30, 1011, when the necessary quotas required to complete the Territorial Force will be declared, and the training of those not called upon to serve iu the Territorial Force will lie put into operation. (h) That all officers, warrant officers, N.C.O.'s, and men who were over the age of twenty-one on November '2, 1010, now serving in the Volunteers, may, if they so desire, continue to serve in the Territorial Force until the establishments are-completed and maintained by the automatic action of the quota system, described in Memorandum of Defence No. III!) AlOlO. The Taranaki Guards, under Lieuts. Boon and Beadle, went into camp at the Ilenui Beach on Saturday, with forty-five of all ranks in attendance. The officer in command (Lieut. Boon) desires it to bo known that members of the company must attend the camp to make themselves efficient for the year. Failure to attend may cause recalcitrants to have to pay their capitation allowance lo the company. The Taranaki Rules- camp has been struck. The work was carried out with great credit. In the tent competition for Messrs. Sole Bros.' prize No. 1 section (Sergt. Crutch) jlnd No. 3 (§crgt. Southam) tied, and Capt. McDiarmid gave another prize of equal value. Before striking camp, Capt. - Fletcher, on behalf of the non-coms., presented Private Bacon, Camp Quartermaster, with a case of pipes, in recognition of the way in which he had carried out his onerous duties.
