A GALE RACING
ON THE EAST COAST. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisbornc, Saturday. A gale with a heavy sea is being experienced along the coast, and several vessels have been sheltering. The steamer Squall made three attempts to round East Cape from the north, but had to return, the seas sweeping her decks on the last occasion. When she got as far as Awanui, the auxiliary schooner Maggie, Wellington to Gisborne, had to run before the gale last Saturday, and also jettison some of her cargo of sewerage pipes. Oil bags were used during the storm. The Maggie got round East Cape, and is still sheltering. The steamers Ruru and Fanny arrived last night from Teararoa, where they had been sheltering.
