SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS
MONTHLY MEETING. The School Commissioners met .yesterday, when there were present: Messrs. J. Wade (chairman), F.. Simpson, and W T. Jennings, M.P. Apologies were received from Messrs. Major and A. Morton, i COMPLIMENTARY. In the absence of Mr. Major, Mr. Jennings, M.P., moved the resolution of which lie had given notice to the effect that the Hoard considered.that some recompense was due U th» secretary on his retirement from office, and recommended the Prime Minister to make such a grant as was.usual in like circumstances in the public service. In moving the resolution, Mr. Jpnnings referred at some length to the'faithful and capable services rendered by Mr. Corkill during his 13 years of office.— The motion was seconded by Mr. Simpson in complimentary terms." The chairman endorsed the remarks of the mover and seconder, and the motion was carried unanimously. Mr. Corkill briefly returned thanks. GENERAL. The special resolutions passed at the last meeting of the Board, with regard to the conversion of the following leases, was duly confirmed: L. G. Andrews, 11. 11. Olson, Mrs. Street, Viekery Bros.' and Mrs. Courtney. The secretary reported that Mr. C. E. Bcllringcr had notified his acceptance or the new lease on the terms offered by the Board; also that Messrs. Costigan and Jlarrington had given notice of' their acceptance of the award in respect of their expiring lease. The secretary reported that he had advertised sales of leases to be held av Xew Plymouth and Stratford on Saturday, 4th March. The ranger reported that he had resumed his work of inspection, and would furnish his final report. The treasurer reported a balance of £1415 8s lOd. A letter was read from Mr. E. Brocklcbank, who recently took over a lease at Pohokura, asking that the Board would make representations to the Minister for Roads with a view to getting the Arnold road made accessible.—lt was resolved to inform Mr. Brocklcbank that applications already made had been disregarded. Consent was given to a transfer from Fred Wellington to- W. J. Wellington, of the interest on the lease of section 4, block 4, Huiroa South district. Accounts amounting to £24 7a Od were passed -for payment.
