A LIQUOR RAID. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wailii, Yesterday. The premises of two miners, McSheen and Harrison, at Karangahake, were raided yesterday by the police, and a quantity of liquor was seized. FROZEN MEAT TRADE. Gisbornc, Yesterday. In reply to the cable resolution of a meeting with regard to frozen meat, Mr. W. D. Lysnar has received a cable mesage from the town clerk of the City of London Council: "Negotiating with the Port of London Authority for additional storage at Smithfield."

THE JAPANESE EXPEDITION. Wellington, Yesterday. The Japanese Antarctic exploration party to-day is taking in additional provisions. The oldest member of the expedition is 44 years of age, and the youngest 25. Lieutenant Shirase, who spent two years ill Siberia before fitting out the expedition, is 43. LAND FOR SETTLEMENT. Gore, Yesterday. Sir Joseph Ward has advised Mr. Malcolm, M.P., that the Government has decided to negotiate for the purchase of Mr. Watson Shennan's Conical Hills estate, which is situated near Waipahi. LIQUOR AND NO-LICENSE. Dunedin, Yesterday. Sitting in banco to-day, Mr. Justice Williams decided that brewers' notices regarding liquor sent into no-license districts must be forwarded simultaneously with the sale and delivery of the liquor. The matter was brought before the Judges expressly to get a ryling, so as to settle the practice in .South Otago, where magistrates have various views, and Mr. S.M., recently convicted Whittingham. a brewer, for a delay of two days. The Judge upheld the conviction. This is a new decision.

A SCHOONER WRECKED. Invercargill, Yesterday. Word has been received by the schooner llninui that Joseph Hatch's schooner, the Jessie Nicol, was totally wrecked on the Macquarrie Islands at Christmas, and the captain, mate, and cook drowned. The vessel was blown on the rocks during a gale, close to the spot where the Gratitude was wrecked 24 years ago. The survivors are on the islands.
