FIRES.

A FATAL BLAZE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christehurch, Y 7 esterda.v. Early this morning Earnly, the residence of Miss Dudley, at Ranginra, was destroyed bv fire. The only occupants were Miss Dudley, who is a daughter of the late Archdeacon Dudley, and her niece. The barking of a terrier aroused Miss Dudley, and she went *.o the kitchen to see what was wrong, but on opening the door was overcome by smoke. Her niece managed to drag her out of the house, but Miss Dudley, who is advanced in years, was severely burnt. The library and a little furniture were ■saved. The house was over fifty years old. The insurances are not yet ascertainable. Christehurch, Last Night. Miss Frances Dudley, daughter of the late Archdeacon Dudley, who was severely burned in the fire at her residence at "Earnly," Rangiora, this morning, succumbed from the effects of shock and burns this evening. A POST OFFICE BURNED. Auckland, February 9. Opotiki Post and Telegraph Office was totally destroyed by fire yesterday. The postmaster reports that the papers and fittings liave been lost, also all his furniture and clothing.
