Travellers on the r-*J to Waitara yesterday commented on the number of dead birds to be seen on the roadway, one eye ,st counting no less than twenty. It would be interesting to know how they met their fate—whether as the result of poisoned wheat, or, as more probable by being dazed by the smoke and then blown by the gale against the telegraph Wires.
