SOUTH AFRICAN OUTRAGES
WHITE WOMEN'S HONOR MUST BE PROTECTED. DETAILS OF A SENSATIONAL AFFAIR. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 8, 11.25 p.m. Capetown, February 8.
Replying to a member's suggestion in the Assembly, Mr. Hertzog stated that the reports of assaults on the Rand were exaggerated. The Government did not intend to instruct judges to inflict the deatli penalty for attempted assaults. Five thousand attended a meeting of the Wanderers' Club in Johannesburg, and resolved that the' honor of white women must be protected, and, that the penalty of attempted rape should be deatli. Increased police protection was imperative, and the gradual elimination of male natives as domestics was most essential.
Details of the Pankalonga outrage show that a native came to the door, pretending to be a messenger. He forced admission, and seized the lady of the house, but after a desperate struggle the lady finally freed herself, procured a revolver, and shot her assailant dead.
