TWO CAKE RECIPES. An ejjglcss cake is made as follows: One cup of chopped nuts, one .cup of sour milk, one cup of sugar, one-half cup of butter, one teaspoonful each of cinnamon, cloves and soda, two cups of flour, pinch of mace; dissolve soda with milk; lake in n square cake tin. SURPRISE CAKE. Make a flour white cake of one cupful of sugar, one-half cupful of butter, two cupfuls of flour, into which has been s'fted two teaspoonfuls of baking powder, ami add at last the stiffly beaten yolks of two eggs, one-half teaspoonful of vanilla. Bake in flat pan. In each square press a chocolate cream before frosting with the whites of two eggs beaten and stiffened with powdered sugar, and flavored with vanilla. The : tea with such cakes is the favorite Crescent Blend tea at 1/10 per lb. The flavor of this tea leaves an agreeable impres-, sion on the palate, and most people like' it. It brews a good strong rich liquor, and the flavor never varies. It is the best tea at the price to be bought in New Zealand, and it is procurable from most sWreJieeucrg jg tjjijs d.istr':t. '.^
