Bates' summary and forecast:—Fair feather has prevailed, and moderate to strong easterly winds predominated. | The barometer has 1 continued high in thi» south, but has fallen today in the north, especially about "the East Cape, where conditions this evening are ominous. Present indications are for development of a storm area off the east coast of the North Island; iHigh easterly winds, heavy seas, and rain are probable in Hawke's Bay, and urMettled weather will probably extend over the North Island. Haziness and cloudy weather are likely to increase in the south, with moderate to strong easterly'and northerly winds. The barometer is falling everywhere. ' ' * ''
