DISTRICT NEWS.

URENUI. (From Our Own Correspondent.) We had some excitement on the Urenni river on Sunday. Two launches arrived from New Plymouth, and the men were in the river playing Urenui at water polo close to the swing bridge, which had about 30 or 40 men and boys on it watching the game, when, without any warning, the bridge collapsed, turning on its side and sending all on it into the water. Plenty of help being at hand no one was hurt, the parties only getting a good ducking. The game was not finished. It appears that the wire that held the cable down on one side broke. We are having our share of dust and smoke from bush fires. Rain is wanted, for tanks are low and brown patches are appearing in some of the grass paddocks. Still, there seems to be plenty of grass yet. A work that ought to have been done long ago is in hand now, viz., the Clifton Council are having a road made down to the beach north of the Urenui river to get boulders for rood metal. The increasing traffic on the Main read lias shown that the gravel that has been put on will not stand the traffic. Mr. F. Bowe has increased his accommodation by putting four more bedrooms to his boardinghouse/ There is no doubt that Urenui is getting a very popular resort during the holiday seiuon. Of course, several motor-cars arrive, sometimes four a day, and some of fhem go at a pretty good pace, much to the annoyance of the i.r-iv.illing public. LINCOLN ROjiD. (iPrem Our Own Correspondent.)
