HEART FAILURE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Monday. John J. Russell, proprietor of the Star Hotel, Otahuhu, was found dead in bed on Sunday morning, it is supposed from heart failure. DRIVEN TO SUIGIDE. Auckland, Monday. Ethel May Jackson, wife of Robert A. Jackson, v was found dead on Saturday at her residence, Bath street, Parnell. She left a letter as follows:—"My husband has driven me to do this. Perhaps he will be quite satisfied with his work. He has been going out every night. I think he forgets I am so very lonely. I asked him to-night to come /ome. He would not come, so I think K better to die." Deceased married Robert A. Jackson in Australia 18 months ago. Three days after marriage they quarrelled, and had failed to agree ever since. Jackson left home on Thursday, and did not return till informed of his wife's death. At the inquest yesterday evidence showed that death was caused by corrosive poisoning, and a verdict of suicide was returned. SHOOTING ACCIDENT. Blenheim, Monday. Herbert Oben, a well-known footballer, was accidentally shot in the head whilu rabbit shooting at Taylor's Pass yesterday. It is feared he may lose the sight of one eye. CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. Wellington, Monday. As the coastal steamer Mana was leaving the wharf on Saturday night, a woman named Hannah Little jumped into the harbor. She was rescued by a sailor, and this morning was charged with having attempted to commit suicide. She was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called on. SUDDEN DEATH. Wellington, Monday. William Jardine, an engine-fitter employed by the Union Steam Ship Company, died suddenly this morning.
