There have been five cases of natives criminally assaulting or attempting to indecently assault white women at Witwatersrand alone during the past few days. Public feeling is incensed, and judges are urged to inflict the utmost penalty in all cases. The worst one was committed in broad daylight, and the criminal escaped after violating and attempting to murder a lady teacher who was cycling homewards.
