At Stratford on Wednesday I held my annual sheep fair, when there was a good yarding of sneep of medium quality Bidding was not very brisk at the hammer, but a fair amount of business was done afterwards. MATTHEWS & BEXXETT'S REPORT. Matthews and Bennett report that there was a good yarding of cattle at their Inglewood yards on Wednesday last. Weaners were not saleable, but all other stock sold under the hammer at the following prices:—Weaners ISs Od to £1 17s, 15-months steers £3 ,„s, 15months heifers £3 (is to £3 i)s, in-calf heifers £3 15s to £4 4s, store cows £2 los to £4 10s Gd, springers £4 10s to £5 los. Mr. J. Kindberg's cows made from C 4 as to £8 10s, bull £4 lis (id. OTHER MARKETS. BUBNSIDE. At Burnsiue lofi cattle were yarded, very few of wliick were of prime quality. The sal« opened easier than was the case last week, and prices remained lower by about 10s per head. Best bullocks £0 10* to £lO ss, extra to £l2 15s, medium to good £8 to £!), light £0 10s to £7 10s, best sows and heifers £8 10s to £9 10s, extra to £lO 10s, medium to good £5 10s to £7 10s, light and inferior £4 10s to £0 IDs.
Fat sheep—There was a full yarding, 28' M being penned. The majority forward were ewes, there being very few! pens of prime wethers. Wethers" fully I held their own as compared with last week, 'but ewes, which met with a drag-] Ring sale, dropped Is to Is Cd all round. Fat lambs—l2oo penned, the quality' being very goou. There were too many forward for local butchers, but an exporter stepped in and stopped a heavy decline. ADDIXGTOX. At Addington, as has been the ease at several recent sales, there was a full yarding of all descriptions of sheep and lambs, both the fat and store pens beiim well filled. Eat lambs —Export, buyers secured lines aggregating 4080 at prices ranging from lis to His 7<l; butchers took 482 at 12s 4d to 15s Kid; graziers secured ■lo/ at lis Jd to 12s 9d; while 920 were passed in. Store sheep—Forward rape lambs Us to 12s 2d, medium sorts 9s Gd to 10s, indillerent lines 8s (Id to 9s 3d, culls and scrubby lots 4s Gd to 5s fid, forward wethers 13s to 14s 4d, medium lis Od to 12,s 3d, low-conditioned sorts lis to lis od, 2-tooth ewes 15s, 4 to ISs 2d, 4, (J and 8-tooth to lis'id, s.s ewes 10s U to Us, aged and cull lots 4s od.
Fat sheep—Pri me wethers lis to ISs lOd, lighter 14s !M to His fid, prime ewes 14s to lfis 2d, others Ss Md to 13s Gd, hoggets 13s Od. Fat cattle—Best beef 24s fid to 28s Gd medium 22s (id to 2„s Gd, cow and inferior beef 9s Cd to 22s per 1001b. Steers realised from &t los to £ll 5«, heifers £5 5s to £8 17s Gd, dry cows £5 to £8 OS. A line of 15 to 24months mixed cattle made £3 Ms. Very few fat calves were penned, but as usual they varied greatly in size and quality, and prices ranged from 4s (id to £2 17s (id, according to age and quality. Dairy cows—There was a good entry and a good demand for bitter sorts, prices ranging from £3 17s i« to £8 17s 6.1. , Pigs—Choppers made to 70s, heavy baconer.s 50s to 5/s, smaller sorts 40s to 47s (id (equal to 4'/ 2 d per lb). Heavy porkers realised .'l2s to 30s, lighter 25s to 30s (equivalent to 4d to 4'/L'd per lb. Stores were represented by a good yarding, but the supply was in excess of the demand, and the market was weaker. Large stores made 22s to 275, smaller 14s to 20s. There was a fair demand for weancrs at 4s lid to 10s.
PAbMERSTOX XORTII. Abraham and Williams report:—At Palmerston North we had an exceptionally heavy yarding of sheep, and a medium yarding of cattle. Bidding for all classes of sheep was dull, especially lambs, hut we managed to quit almost everything at prices slightly lower than last week. Cattle sold well at late rates. ! Sheep—4oo 4 and 0-tooth ewes, on account of Mr. 1\ A. Mcllardy, made 15s and 15s Id; aged cull ewes 4s (id to 5s (id, woolly lambs 4s (d to O.s 2d, shorn lambs (small) 2s 2d to 3s sd. good 7s 7d to Ss Id, fat wethers 14s Id, fat ewes 12s Id, 2-tooth wethers 10s. Cattle—Forty-one forward bullocks, on account ot Mr. A. MeHardy, realised .00 12s, 18-montlis steers £3' to £3 1.75, fat cows £4 Ills to £5 10s, store cows £2 to £3, bulls £2 10s to £3. weancrs 20.s to 31s, ucrsey twentv-month heifers £5 10s. JOHXSOXVILLE. Abraham and Williams report:—At our sale at dolmsonville a large entrv of sheep came forward, over 2500 of" all sorts being yarded. Owing to the dry weather prevailing lately there was not much enquiry for aged ewes, but young ewes, together with wethers, met a readysale at good prices. At the enti of the day very little remained unsold. Sheep made the following prices:—Four-tooth wethers 13s to 13s (til, two-tooth wethers 12s 4d to 13.s 2d, others 10s Sd to lis, 2-tooth ewes 13s sd, fl-tooth and f.f.m. ewes lis fld, f.m. ewes 10s (Sd to 10s !)d and 8s to !)s, aged ewe.s 5s to fis Od, lambs (>s 5d to i)s Od, small 4s to as, Romney rams £1 Is to £2 2s, Shropshire ram's £1 Is, aged rams 10s od.
