EFFECT OF FEDERATION
WHAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED HERE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Hobart, February 2. Giving evidence before the Royal Commission enquiring into the financial loss sustained by Tasmania through federation, Sir Elliott Lewis, the Premier, said that, while the other States had gained an average of f 1,02G,000 annually by federation, Tasmania had lost £114,000 annually. Another effect was that large factories on the mainland had developed under federation, compelling some smaller factories in Tasmania to close, and rendering others less nrofitable.
