The wicket was in fair order. Patrick and Bennett resumed to the bowling o! Pearson and Oliff. Bennett added two to the total and was then clean bowled by Pearson—Seven for 245. Sandman came next, but without any additional score Oliff bowled Patrick—Eight for 245. The retiring batsman's total oi 75 was all made yesterday. T. Carlton was the next man in, and with one run added to the score Pearson bowled Sandman for a duck.—Nine for 246. Carlton and Boxshall put a useful partnership, the last wieket adding 23. Then Haddcn bowled Boxshall for six, Carlton carrying his bat for 12. The innings closed for 209, leaving Canterbury in a minority of 80. Auckland in the second attempt scored 199, features of the innings being a freely scored 58 by Hadden and the fine bowling pf Sandman, the googlie bowler. Boxshall did good work behind the wickets, catching one and stumping two. In the time remaining Canterbury scored 30, without losing a wicket. Scores:
