THE EASTERN ASHORE
CARGO BEING JETTISONED. By Cable —Press Association —Copyright. Brisbane, January 20. Further attempts to float the Eastern have proved unsuccessful, and her position is becoming serious.
Sydney, January 30.
New Zealand passengers by the steamer Eastern arrived overland from Brisbane. The New Zcalanders include L. Blumlcll and wife, Mrs. Nelson and infant, A. E. North and Miss North. The passengers have been compelled to leave the bulk of their luggage aboard the stranded steamer, as lighters were unable to approach her. The latest report states that the cargo is being jettisoned and that prospects of floating the vessel are improving, though the sea is still rough.
