RACECOURSE TRAIN FATALITY
OLD WELLINGTON RESILIENT KILLED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Horatio M. Lyon, aged sixty years, one of Wellington's best known citizens, met his death in a tragic manner this afternoon. He had been attending the races at Trcntham, and left the course to return to the city by an early train. Lyon was crossing the line to roach the platform on the other side, and, being short-sighted, did not notice that n train was approaching. He was struck by the incoming train, and practically cut to pieces. ■ His body was only recovered by raising the carriages by the use of jacks, and it was then found to be horribly mutilated, showing that death must have been instantaneous. Tlie deceased was for many years tlie secretary of the Wellington Racing Club, in which capacity he was widely known. He was five years secretary of the Wellington Harbor Board. For the last few years, until his retirement from the position recently, Mr. Lyons was secretary of the Fire Underwriters' Association.
