Marquis Komura, the Premier, in the House of Representatives, declared that the Anglo-Japanese Alliance was constantly gaining in strength, ensuring perfect accord and genuine goodwill. The Alliance continued a powerful factor n the general peace of the Far East. Tariff negotiations were proceeding ■with various Powers, aming to re-estab-lish the Japanese complete tariff autonomy and to eliminate unequal engagements. It was hoped that a satisfactory treaty with Great Britain would shortly be "concluded.
