WAITARA NEWS
HARBOR BOARD. (From Our Own Correspondent). The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held on Friday evening, there being present—Messrs .Stubbs (chairman), Jennings, M.P., .Spurdle, .Chappell and Jenkins. Hon. T. Kelly wrote thanking the Board for its letter of appreciation of his efforts in regard to the Harbor Bill. Mr. Jennings, M.P., personally thanked the Board. G. G. Andrews applies for the consent of the Board to a transfer of lease from Wilkes to the applicant.—On the motion of Messrs .Spurdle and Jennings, the application was granted. The Telegraph Department advised that they could not put in a connection between the Waitara pilot station and the Mokau office. —The chairman thought that even if the Department could not allow the offices to have a night connection they should have the pilot station connected so that the captains of the boats in Mokau could always ascertain the state of the bar, etc. —-Mr. Jennings supported the application, Mr. Spurdle: seconding.—The proposal was carried. The New Zealand Shipping Company again asked if the Board would erect a derrick on the wharf.—The work is to be proceeded with. Mr. W. Renncll asked the Board what they intended to do in regard to debentures falling due in February, whether the Board intended to pay or renew.--It was resolved to advise Mr. Rennell that if he so desires the Board will renew the debentures. The wliole matter of loan was left in the hands of the chairman. The Harbors Association sent a circular letter re recent harbors legislation.
Tlii! AssistanWnder-Secrelary of Marine advised that a €1 for .£2 subsidy would be paid for the re-erection of the Waitara hridge. It was resolved, on the motion of Messrs Jenkins and Chappell, to ask the Sinking Fund Commissioners to hand over the sinking fund to meet the purchase of debentures. Mes-rs Roy and Nicholson forwarded several leases for surrender and renewal. —The necessary resolutions were duly carricu.
Mr. McDuff asked the Board to place, a rental on certain leases with a view to taking up a new lease. iMts. Cusack asked that a portion of block 97 )>e put up for lease.
The trustees of the estate of Thos, Bavlv asrecd to transfer the lease held by'them to J. W. MeDufT.
Messrs Ogle and Fair asked for the transfer to the former of a sub-lease.
The committee reported having made several valuations for consideration of the Board.
Rentals for applied sections were made. An offer of 10s for a case was accepted. Accounts amounting to :C53!) 13s 3d were passed for payment.
