The' Great Central Kauway Company's steamer Lincoln was stranded in a tog on the Haisborough Sounds off Cromer. Distress signals were not perceived for twenty-four hours. The weather was fortunately favorable, and lifeboats rescued the passengers. TBAMWAYMEN ON STRIKE. Johannesburg, January 22. Conductors and motormen demanded the dismissal of an obnoxious inspector. As the demand was not granted, they struck, and all trams were stopped till the inspector was finally withdrawn. THE TRADE OF MANCHESTER. London, January 3.2. The Manchester Guardian welcomes Mr. Bill's report on Manchester trade. It remarks that Australia's almost complete dependence on London is wasteful in the extreme and cannot continue without seriously prejudicing the interests of tooth Australia and Manchester.
