The torepdo-destroyer, Vesta, which started for jiarlskrona on her trial trip, has reached Copenhagen in a crippled condition, having lost a propeller. AN EMBANKMENT UNDERMINED. Received 22, 5.5 p.m. St. Petersburg, January 21. A heavy storm in the Caspian sea undermined an embankment at Batoum, causing a flood, which threatened tliC' prison, whence the convicts were removed to a place of safety. RUSSIAN IMMIGRANTS BLOCKED. Received 22, 5.5 p.m. Amsterdam, January 21. Another batch of 350 Russians from Canada, via Rotterdam, has been detained at Oldengaal. Newspapers are irritated, and accuse the German authorities of obstruction in the hope that Hamburg and Bremen will be benefited.
OCEAN MAIL BOUNTY BILL. Received 22, 5.5 p.m. New York, January 21. The Ocean Mail Bounty Bill was bitterly assailed in the United States Senate. The measure is intended to buttress the falling American marine. Critics contended that the measure was a wedge, making way for a general Ship Subsidy Bill, involving twenty Millions sterling annually.
A HOTEL FIRE. Received 22,. 5.10 p.m. New York, January 21. The Traders' Hotel, with the theatre adjoining, and a number of business houses, were destroyed at Clarksbury, in West Virginia. Panic-stricken women were forcibly removed from the hotel,, CARNEGIE'S MILLIONS. Received 22, 5.10 p.m. New York, January 21.
Mr. Andrew Carnegie, millionaire, has given two millions sterling to the Washington Institute of Research, his total benefactions thereto being five millions.
