A London cable conveys the intimation that Viscount Chelsea is to marry Miss Coxon, of Cheltenham. Mr. C. E. Sligo, of the staff of the New Zealand Herald, has been appointed editor of the Palliatua Herald. Mr. J. B. Roy returned home yesterday morning from a trip embracingDunedin, Wellington and Auckland. Mr. Fowlds and party returned from Africa by the Mantua yesterday. All are well and enthusiastic about the trip. Mr. Fowlds was tendered a civic reception yesterday ifitcrnoon. Mr. Thome George, M.L.C., and Mr. Henry, oil expert, arrived by the same vessel. The late Mr. George Rolleston, British Trade Commissioner, who was in New Plymouth only a couple of weeks ago, wits an enthusiastic believer iu the future of the Tmanaki oil industry, and had hopes when he left here of doing a good deal for it when he arrived in England. It is officially announced, says a London cable, that Mr. William Jones, M.P. for Carnarvon, succeeds as Lord of the Treasury Mr: Oswald Partington, who was defeated at the general election for the High Peak division of Derbyshire. The appointment of Mr. Jones a whip necessitates a bye-election. \
