SENIOR COMPETITION. NEW PLYMOUTH v. CARRIXGTON ] ROAD. These teams met on the Recreation Ground yesterday, and as the result of the afternoon's play the match remains unfinished. The New. Plymouth team I vent in to hat first, and made a very j substantial score; in fact the total, 288, represents a record for the ground. With the exception of the first two batsmen, the team all got into double figures. Hasell's 70 was a fine innings, his score being built up by careful batting, and he eventually went out I.b.w. The next highest scorer was Weston, whose 47 was the result of splendid judgment throughout, he being content to keep up his wicket and to eschew boundary hits, as his score shows, only one fourer being recorded. Whittle and Price made 27 each, Bowles 24, Williams and Ingram IS each, Nieoll 10, and Bewley 11. The extras numbered 10. With a few minutes to go to play out time, Carrington Road sent in Howard and Jordan, but the former was run out before he had scored, and with only a single up. Avery joined Jordan, and when time was called* 23 had been registered. The following were the scores:— NEW PLYMOUTH. The winners put together 70, ot which 1 Blundell's 24 was the most serviceable. Athletic replied with 37, Bury and Cooper making 12 each. Urenui had Ave wickets down for 84 when time was called, C. The former made 3!\ and declared their second essay closed with the score at G7 for six wickets. Fire Brigade had 52 to their credit on the first innings, and when time Mas up had made 3!) for the loss of four wicktts.
