ST. AUBYN TOWN BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting was held on Tuesday. Present: The chairman (Mr. G. E. Blanehard), Messrs. F. Hodson, if. Lealand, W. J. Russell. Mr. H. Putt apologised for his absence. Correspondence from the town clerk of the New Plymouth Borough Council forwarding agreement for signature re abattoir district; from several property owners in Devon street agreeing to accept the Board's offer to lay storm-water pipes across the footpath in Devon street; from Valuation ■ Department, stating that a fresh valuation of the town district could not be made at present.

The chairman and Mr. Lealand were appointed to sign the agreement rt abattoir.

Resolved: "That an engineer be engaged to report on anil give an estimate of the cost of grading and metalling South road, bridging, filling, and metalling Belt road, and the necessary work required to put all the roads in the district in aood order.

The Town Board contemplate, as soon as funds permit, to request the Borough Council to assist in providing a new concrete bridge and filling on the Cutfield road.

A letter is to be forwarded to the Minister of Railways praying that the Mountain quarries be opened with ah expedition seeing that the local bodies, including the St. Aubyn Town District, are face to face with a serious problem in the matter of procuring metal, as they have hitherto relied on procuring supplies from the Government quarries. The estimated quantity for the Board's use each year would be 800 to 1000 vards.

It was also resolved, "That the St. Aubyn Town Board fully endorses the remarks made by Mr. Newton King re the disgraceful condition of the South road, more especially that portion which passes through the Board's district which is scarcely metalled sufficiently wide for one trap.
