A GRANT TO CAPTAIN SEDDON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. On the recommendation of the Commandant of the Forces, the Government has authorised the payment of £IOO to Capt. R. J. S. Seddon for extra work involved in connection with the new defence scheme.

Major-General Godley was engaged in conference to-day with battalion commanders in the Wellington district. The business of the conference is entirely confined to the matters affecting organisation. This afternoon the Commandant, accompanied by His Excellency the Governor, Lord Islington, and the Minister of Defence, Sir J. G. Ward, left for the Tauherenikau camp. Major-Gencral Godley, after inspecting the' camp, will witness the shell-firing by the D. Battery to-morrow morning.
