HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

COMMITTEE MEETING. A committee meeting of the New Ply mouth-Horticultural Society was held in the secretary's office on Tuesday night, Mr. G. H. MeGahey, president, presiding. A deputation from the Pukekura Park Board, consisting of Messrs. Govett and Tribe, waited on the Society to ask their assistance at the floral fete to be held on Thursday, the 211 th inst. The committee decided to work up exhibits, and judges were appointed for the different classes. A rough balance-sheet of past shows was submitted to the meeting, and showed a small credit-balance. The president mentioned that this was the centenary of the pansy, and the society should endeavor to make it a "pansy year." Seed sown in boxes in March would bloom at the time of the next annual show. The Rev. Mr. Kellow had. he said, promised to write a history of the pansy. This would be handed to the local press, and should prove interesting reading. The question of next year's shows was discussed, and left to the committee to consider before the next annual meeting.
