AUSTRALIA'S STABILITY
REVIEW BY '-FINANCIAL NEWS." By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 18, 10.50 p.m. London, January 18. The Financial News states that on the whole the Australian banking position is remarkably sound. There is no indication in the statistics of inflation of value or over-speculation. The establishment of the Commonwealth Bank must somewhat interfere with the functions of existing banks, and possibly cause some temporary limitatioij of their profit-earn-ing capacity, but Australia must enormously increase in wealth-earning activities, and banking business would increase pari passu. There was no reason to predict any permanent falling-off either in the stability of Australian banks or their profit-earning powers.
