SUGGESTED STATE GASWORKS

A SYDNEY COMPLAINT. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received IS, 0.5 p.m. Sydney, January 18. A deputation of suburban aldermen requested the Premier to limit the price of gas. One stated that it cost less than a shilling a thousand to produce, and the monopoly charged 3s Od a thousand.

Mr. McGowan said he was entirely in sympathy with the deputation, but he did not believe in half-measures. He would look into the matter to see if there wore justification for biking halfway action. He suggested that if the Government remained in power he would face bile matter so that everybody would be satisfied. He also suggested that the Government would deal with the limitation of prices of food.
